Privacy Protocol

1. What you give us

When you paste a link into Social Media Downloader, your browser sends that URL to our servers. We use it only to fetch metadata and bytes from the originating platform on your behalf. We do not associate URLs with your identity.

2. What we store

• Logs: standard request logs (timestamp, IP, user agent, status code) are retained for up to 30 days for abuse prevention and debugging.
• Downloaded media: not stored. Media bytes are streamed through our proxy and discarded once the response finishes.
• Cookies: Social Media Downloader does not set tracking cookies. The only cookies in play are first-party session cookies required for the app to function.

3. Third-party platforms

Your request causes us to contact YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X/Twitter, Reddit, Vimeo, or other sources you specify. Their privacy policies govern what they see and log. We send only the URL you provided and standard browser-style headers.

4. Cookies-from-browser feature (self-hosted)

Operators self-hosting Social Media Downloader can configure YTDLP_COOKIES_BROWSER to pull authenticated cookies from a local browser profile. These cookies never leave the server and are used only to authenticate downloads against platforms that require login. End users of a hosted instance are not affected.

5. Data subject rights

Because we do not maintain user accounts, there is no personal profile to access, export, or delete. Server logs are scoped by IP and rotate within the retention window described above.

6. Children

Social Media Downloader is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Changes to this protocol

We may update this document. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be announced on the homepage.
